Brain Tumour, Trigeminal Neuralgia and Minimally Invasive Spine Specialist
Dr Andrew Gogos is a neurosurgeon and spine surgeon based in Melbourne. He is an expert in brain tumour and cranial surgery, having completed a prestigious brain tumour fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
Dr Gogos is passionate about providing individualised care utilising the latest technologies and minimally invasive techniques to improve outcomes for his patients.
He has a special interest in treating patients with brain tumours (including glioma, pituitary tumours, schwannoma, meningioma and metastases), trigeminal neuralgia and Chiari malformation.
In addition, Dr Gogos is experienced in the latest minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of spine conditions, including, sciatica, disc protrusions, spondylolisthesis and tumours.
Dr Gogos graduated with first class honours from the University of Melbourne with degrees in medicine and medical science. During this time he completed research at the Children’s Hospital, Boston and Harvard Medical School and was awarded multiple prizes and scholarships. He obtained fellowship of the Royal Australasia College of Surgeons after training in major neurosurgical centres across Australia including the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital, Royal Children’s Hospital, and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. This training included extensive experience in the minimally invasive treatment of spinal disorders.
Dr Gogos then completed sub-specialist training in brain tumour and skull base surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious brain tumours centres. He received training in the latest techniques including awake craniotomy, brain mapping, and minimally invasive endoscopic approaches to minimise the risk of neurological injury.
Dr Gogos is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and a member of the Neurosurgical Society of Australia, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Society of Neuro-Oncology and the Cooperative trials Group for Neuro-Oncology.
Research & Publications
Dr Gogos has a strong interest in research and has published over 40 peer reviewed publications. He has presented this work at conferences in Australia, Europe and the United States of America. His work has received numerous awards and grants. Dr Gogos also serves as a reviewer for multiple scientific and neurosurgical journals and is a member of the Neurosurgical Society of Australia’s Research Committee.
